A 6.1-magnitude earthquake with its epicentre near Wellington struck New Zealand on Wednesday (15 February 2023).
After a strong jolt at the beginning of the earthquake, there were at least 30 seconds of moderate shaking. At a depth of 76 kilometers, the quake struck at 7:38 p.m. (local time), around 50 km northwest of Paraparaumu.
According to GeoNet, the shaking has been rated as “strong,” and there have been reports of people feeling tremors all around the nation. However, how much damage the earthquake has caused still needs to be made clear.
