As per reports on 04 May, several cases of vandalism and agitation have been reported in some parts of Manipur, in the past 24 hours.
On 03 May, violence broke out between tribals and non-tribals in the Torbung area of Churachandpur district during a “Tribal Solidarity March” called by All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) to demand Meiteis for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
On Wednesday evening (03 May), the Manipur government blocked mobile internet across the state for the next five days and imposed curfews in several districts under Section 144 CrPC with immediate effect.
To contain the situation, a few companies of RAF, along with an adequate number of Army, Assam Rifles personnel, and paramilitary forces were deployed in the state.
On Thursday morning (04 May), the Army held a flag march in the violence-torn state of Manipur. So far, the forces have rescued 7,500 individuals from violent locations, and many more are being relocated to safer areas.
