Thousands of South Australians are without power after a big thunderstorm slammed the state.
More than 65,000 lightning strikes struck the Australian state of South Australia (SA) in the 24 hours leading up to Wednesday morning (07 June) as a big storm system swept through, creating widespread blackouts.
More than 10,000 homes and businesses were still without power as of 06:00 a.m. (local time) on Wednesday (07 June), largely in Adelaide, South Australia’s capital city, and its surrounding towns.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued after two bands of heavy rain fell between 9:00 p.m. (local time) and 10:00 p.m. (local time) on Tuesday night (06 June) and between 03:00 a.m. (local time) and 03:30 a.m. (local time) on Wednesday morning (07 June).
