On Tuesday (22 August), the blockade on the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2) continued for the second day, while police personnel provided security cover to allow vehicles to go along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway (NH-37).
A police officer in Imphal verified that the flow of cars carrying critical commodities along NH-37 has been assured.
The provision of vital products and food grains was disrupted in many tribal-dominated areas as a result of the NH-2 blockade.
There are also blockades in several areas of the NH-37, which is hindering vehicle flow.
The Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) reimposed blockades on NH-2 in Kangpokpi district and NH 37 in Tamenglong district on Monday (21 August), demanding an uninterrupted and adequate supply of foodgrains, essential commodities, and medicines to Kuki-Zo communities living in mountainous areas.
