The Associated Press has issued a warning about a data breach affecting AP Stylebook customers, in which attackers exploited stolen data to launch targeted phishing attempts.
The AP Stylebook is a widely used grammar, punctuation, and writing style guide for journalists, periodicals, and newsrooms around the world.
The Associated Press said this week that an old third-party-managed AP Stylebook site that was no longer in use had been hacked between 16 July and 22 July 2023, allowing 224 customers’ data to be stolen.
The stolen information includes a customer’s name, email address, street address, city, state, zip code, phone number, and User ID. Customers’ tax-exempt IDs, such as Social Security numbers or Employer Identification Numbers, were also stolen.
