In the early hours of July 24, a fierce encounter broke out between the Indian Army and terrorists in the Kowut area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara region.
The Army, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, had launched a joint operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. The vigilant troops observed suspicious movement and promptly challenged it. In response, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on the troops.
During the ensuing firefight, one terrorist was killed. However, a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) from the Army sustained critical injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, the soldier succumbed to his injuries shortly after the encounter.
