Early on Tuesday (20 August), Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district was shaken by two back-to-back earthquakes, with magnitudes of 4.9 and 4.8, as reported by the National Center for Seismology (NCS). The first earthquake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, struck at approximately 06:45 am (local time) and was followed shortly by a second tremor recorded at 4.8 magnitude.
The second earthquake occurred at a depth of around 10 kilometers. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage to infrastructure. Authorities are actively monitoring the situation for any further developments as they assess the impact of the seismic activity in the region.
