The commander of Hezbollah’s terror headquarters in the Beirut area, Suhail Hussein Husseini, was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Monday (7 October), as confirmed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Tuesday (8 October). Husseini played a significant role in facilitating weapons transfers between Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon and distributing them to various Hezbollah units. His responsibilities also included overseeing sensitive logistics and finances, such as war plans and special operations, including attacks on Israel from Lebanon and Syria.
Husseini was a member of Hezbollah’s Jihad Council, the group’s senior military forum, and managed Hezbollah’s Research and Development Unit. This unit focuses on manufacturing precision-guided missiles and managing the storage and transportation of weapons in Lebanon. The IDF has been targeting Hezbollah leadership in southern Beirut, specifically in the Dahiyeh area, and recently killed Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah, while also targeting his potential successor, Hashem Safieddine.
In addition to the airstrikes, Hezbollah launched 190 projectiles into Israeli territory on Monday, mostly targeting northern areas. Five rockets were fired at the Tel Aviv region, marking a continuation of near-daily attacks since October 8. These relentless attacks have caused widespread damage and resulted in over 40 deaths in Israel, with thousands of rockets, missiles, and drones striking Israeli targets.
Israel has escalated its military operations against Hezbollah, intending to return displaced Israeli civilians to northern Israel as a key war objective. According to IDF figures, Hezbollah has fired over 12,400 projectiles into Israeli territory in the past year, intensifying the ongoing conflict between the two forces.
