UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot in a targeted attack outside a Hilton hotel in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday morning (04 December, local time). Surveillance footage reveals the gunman lying in wait before shooting Thompson multiple times and fleeing the scene on an electric bike. Authorities confirmed the attack was deliberate and are investigating potential motives, including threats linked to Thompson’s professional life.

The NYPD is employing extensive resources to track the suspect, analyzing surveillance footage, forensic evidence, and items left near the scene. A water bottle, candy wrapper, and cell phone believed to belong to the gunman are under examination. Facial recognition programs are also being used to identify the suspect, who was last seen cycling away from Central Park.

UnitedHealthcare and law enforcement officials have expressed their condolences and commitment to finding the perpetrator. Thompson’s death occurred during the company’s investors’ conference, which was canceled following the incident. His family has requested privacy, mourning the loss of a loving father and community figure.

This tragedy has sent shockwaves through the healthcare industry and beyond. Investigators are probing every aspect of Thompson’s personal and professional life, examining possible grievances from former employees or individuals denied care by the company. A $10,000 reward has been announced for information leading to the suspect’s arrest, as police work tirelessly to solve the case.
