A Russian citizen recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services was arrested in Moscow while attempting to plant a bomb under the car of a high-ranking Russian Defense Ministry official. The Federal Security Service (FSB) revealed that the individual had traveled to Moscow from Ukraine in November 2024, posing as a deportee in transit through Moldova and Georgia. The operation was intended to carry out a terrorist act targeting the official, with plans coordinated by Ukrainian intelligence.

According to the FSB, the agent retrieved the explosive device and surveillance equipment from a hidden cache in the Moscow Region. The bomb, disguised as a power bank with magnets, was designed to be attached to the service vehicle of the target, whose driver was a close relative. Ukrainian intelligence planned to detonate the device remotely from their territory.

The preparations for the attack were detailed, with coordination involving the agent’s wife residing in Mirgorod, Poltava Region, Ukraine. This collaboration highlights the extensive planning behind the plot, including the use of multiple channels to ensure communication and execution. The operation also included plans for the agent’s escape route to Ukraine and further relocation to an EU country following the attack.

The FSB’s intervention foiled the terrorist plot, underscoring the ongoing tensions and proxy operations between Russia and Ukraine. The incident showcases the use of covert operatives and intricate planning in attempts to destabilize security, while also emphasizing the intelligence efforts required to thwart such threats.
