According to the reports on Saturday (09 August), two Army soldiers lost their lives and two others were injured during an overnight (local time) gunfight with terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district, marking one of the longest anti-terror operations in the Valley. The operation, which began on August 1 following specific intelligence inputs, has entered its ninth day. So far, two terrorists have been neutralised, though their identities and group affiliations remain unknown.

The Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps paid tribute to the fallen soldiers, Lance Naik Pritpal Singh and Sepoy Harminder Singh, praising their courage and dedication to the nation. The Army reaffirmed its solidarity with the bereaved families and honoured their sacrifice, describing it as an inspiration for future generations. This latest exchange of fire also increased the total number of injured security personnel to nine.

Senior police and Army leadership, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Nalin Prabhat and Northern Commander Lt Gen Pratik Sharma, are directly overseeing the ongoing operation. Security forces have maintained a tight cordon in the forest area of Akhal, where the terrorists are believed to be hiding, ensuring constant pressure on them.

Advanced measures have been deployed to track the militants, including the use of drones, helicopters, and para commandos. The sustained engagement highlights the determination of security forces to neutralise the threat completely, despite the challenging terrain and the prolonged nature of the operation.
