In the early hours of 22 July, at approximately 03:10 am (local time), Army troops successfully thwarted a terrorist attack on a security post and the house of a Village Defence Guard (VDG) in Gunda, Rajouri. The incident triggered an immediate cordon and search operation aimed at tracking down the terrorists, leading to a fierce gunfight. During this encounter, one terrorist was killed. However, a jawan and a civilian, who is related to the VDG whose house was targeted sustained injuries.
Reports indicate that a group of around 40 to 50 Pakistani terrorists are currently hiding in the upper reaches of the hilly districts of the Jammu region. This development has prompted security forces to launch extensive counter-terror operations in these areas to apprehend the infiltrators. These terrorists are reported to be highly trained and equipped with advanced weaponry, including American-made M4 Carbine rifles fitted with night vision devices. Additionally, they possess Chinese steel-coated bullets capable of penetrating bullet-proof vehicles.
In response to the heightened threat, Army troops have intensified their efforts, launching multiple cordon and search operations to hunt down the terrorists. A tunnel detection exercise is also underway along the India-Pakistan international border in Samba to prevent further infiltration. Furthermore, a crackdown on Over-Ground Workers (OGWs) of terrorists is in progress, aiming to dismantle their support networks within the region.
The security forces are on high alert and continue to monitor the situation closely, ensuring the safety and security of the residents in the affected areas.
