Boko Haram terrorists have killed 11 farmers and abducted 15 residents in attacks on border communities around the Mandara Mountains in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State. These assaults, which occurred over the past week, left many injured. The violence was confirmed by Senator Ali Ndume, representing Borno South Senatorial District, who highlighted the severity of the situation.
In addition to the killings and abductions, Boko Haram also ambushed military personnel in the Kirawa border community, burning two military vehicles. Senator Ndume expressed concern over the renewed attacks in the region, noting that Gwoza had been particularly affected. Just last week, terrorists attacked farmers during harvest, killing eight and kidnapping five.
Senator Ndume criticized the Nigerian Army’s ability to handle the insurgency, stating that low morale, inadequate training, and insufficient equipment were major challenges. He called for better resources for the military to combat Boko Haram effectively, stressing the need for more attack helicopters and other essential equipment.
Despite these concerns, Ndume commended the military for its commitment to ending the insurgency. However, he emphasized that without proper support, its efforts would be limited. He compared Nigeria’s resources to those of other nations like Egypt, pointing out that the country’s military is under-equipped for the challenges it faces.
