According to the reports on Tuesday (22 October), the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) is preparing to evacuate around 7,280 people from low-lying slum areas in anticipation of Cyclone Dana, predicted to hit Odisha on Thursday night. CMC Mayor Subhas Singh stated that 81 rehabilitation centers have been identified for relocating residents to ensure their safety.
The preparations include the setup of temporary cyclone shelters in 72 educational institutions nine community centers and Kalyan Mandaps. A preparedness meeting was held with corporators and officials from various departments to coordinate efforts ahead of the cyclone’s landfall.
Essential services, including adequate food supplies, are being arranged at the shelters for the evacuees. In addition, 16 junior engineers have been assigned to monitor water logging issues, ensuring prompt action in case of flooding.
To manage the waterlogging, CMC has 283 pump sets, including 15 high-power Volvo pump sets, ready for the dewatering process. The Fire Services department will also provide 15 more pump sets to tackle any flooding, ensuring effective disaster management during and after the cyclone.
