According to the reports on Wednesday (6 November), at least 28 people lost their lives in two separate incidents in Nigeria, including a violent bandit attack in Niger State and a road accident in Imo State. The attack took place in Wayam Community in the Rafi Local Government Area, where bandits struck as a form of reprisal for one of their members killed earlier by local security forces.
According to reports, the bandits invaded Wayam Community, killing 12 people and abducting numerous others. Witnesses described the attack as unusually brutal, with villagers slaughtered in a particularly gruesome manner. The bandits’ actions were reportedly motivated by the death of one of their members during an earlier raid, in which local vigilantes and security forces had intervened.
A resident from a nearby village, who preferred to remain anonymous, recounted the incident and the terror it caused. The villager shared that the bandits specifically targeted residents in retribution, suggesting this was not a random attack but one carried out with a clear purpose. This has added to the fear and tension within the community, already struggling with frequent incursions by armed groups.
In addition to the bandit attack, a separate road mishap in Imo State contributed to the tragic death toll, which reached 28 across the two incidents. These events highlight the ongoing security and safety challenges faced in parts of Nigeria, where banditry and fatal road accidents remain persistent threats to civilians.
