According to the reports on Monday (6 January), a shooting attack on a bus in the Palestinian village of Al-Funduq, located in the occupied West Bank, left three Israelis dead and seven others injured. The victims included two women in their 60s and a man in his 40s. Israeli authorities have launched a manhunt for the attackers, who fled the scene. This incident adds to a growing wave of violence in the region since the Hamas-led attack on October 7, 2023, which ignited the ongoing conflict.
The West Bank has seen a surge in violence, with Palestinians conducting numerous attacks, including shootings and car-ramming incidents. Israel has responded with frequent military raids, often resulting in deadly clashes with militants. The Palestinian Health Ministry reports that over 835 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank since the war began. The territory remains under Israeli military control, with a mix of Palestinian towns and Israeli settlements, the latter widely regarded as illegal under international law.
Meanwhile, the war in Gaza has devastated the territory, displacing 90% of its population and causing over 45,800 deaths, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Israel’s ongoing air and ground operations aim to target Hamas militants but have resulted in widespread civilian casualties. Humanitarian conditions in Gaza are dire, with harsh winter weather compounding the suffering of displaced residents, including infants who have died of hypothermia. Aid delivery remains severely constrained by continued fighting and logistical challenges.
The war began with a massive surprise attack by Hamas militants, killing around 1,200 Israelis and abducting approximately 250 people. While ceasefire negotiations and hostage release discussions have reportedly made some progress, the conflict shows no signs of resolution. International attention remains focused on both the West Bank and Gaza as the violence escalates and the humanitarian crisis deepens.
