According to the reports on Tuesday (18 February), a Delta Air Lines regional jet overturned while landing at Toronto Pearson Airport on Monday, injuring 18 of the 80 people on board. Among the injured, three passengers, including a child, sustained critical injuries. The aircraft, a CRJ900 operated by Delta’s Endeavor Air subsidiary, had taken off from Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and crashed after an 86-minute flight.
The accident occurred at 2:13 p.m. (local time) amid windy conditions following a snowstorm, causing the aircraft to come to rest near the intersection of Runway 23 and Runway 15. The crash led to an immediate shutdown of the airport, halting all arrivals and departures. Operations on three runways resumed by 5 p.m. (local time), but two runways remain closed for further investigation.
Toronto Pearson Airport CEO Deborah Flint confirmed that the investigation into the crash would continue overnight and possibly for several days. Officials are working to determine the cause of the incident, focusing on the weather conditions and aircraft performance during landing. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Canadian aviation authorities are assisting in the probe.
The disruption caused by the crash led to significant delays and diversions of incoming flights to other airports. Passengers and crew members were assisted by emergency responders at the scene, and those injured received medical attention. Authorities have urged travelers to check with airlines for flight updates as the investigation progresses.
