A tragic incident occurred in Dhaka, Bangladesh, on Monday (21 July) when a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training aircraft crashed into the Milestone School and College in the Uttara area. The crash resulted in the deaths of at least 19 people and left over 50 injured, many of them children and adults suffering from severe burns. The aircraft had taken off at 13:06 local time before the crash.
Eyewitnesses described the horrifying moments after the crash, with a loud explosion followed by thick black smoke billowing from the campus. Videos showed flames engulfing parts of the building, with the plane’s wreckage creating a large hole in the structure. Firefighters rushed to the scene, dousing the fire and rescuing the injured from the debris.
Among the victims was a third-grade student who was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. Several others, including children aged 12 and 14, and a 40-year-old adult, were admitted to local hospitals in critical condition. Heart-wrenching visuals from the scene showed distressed parents and students, with many crying and screaming in panic.
Bangladesh’s interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, promised a thorough investigation and full support to the victims. The government acknowledged the immense and irreparable loss suffered by the Air Force, school community, and families involved. The tragedy comes shortly after another major aviation disaster in neighboring India, further shaking regional confidence in aviation safety.
