According to the reports on Tuesday (11 March), Elon Musk claimed that his social media platform X experienced a major cyber attack on Monday (10 March), causing multiple outages worldwide. He stated that the attack originated from a Ukrainian IP address but admitted that investigations were still ongoing. Musk also expressed concerns that a dangerous group or a country might be behind the large-scale disruption. Despite repeated crashes, he assured that X was now functioning normally.
Musk’s claims came amid tensions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Recently, Musk had said that Ukraine’s frontline would collapse without Starlink, though he assured continued support. He also criticized Zelensky, calling him a dictator who canceled elections out of fear of losing. Additionally, Musk accused Zelensky of running a large-scale corruption scheme involving Ukrainian soldiers, though he provided no evidence.
The cyber attack on X has been linked to the hacker group Dark Storm Team, which claimed responsibility on Telegram. This group had previously been involved in hacking incidents targeting U.S. airports in San Francisco and Los Angeles. While Musk initially pointed to Ukraine, the involvement of Dark Storm Team has added another layer of uncertainty to the attack’s origins.
Musk had previously warned about potential cyber attacks on X, stating that the platform faced daily threats. He suggested that this particular attack was more severe and required further investigation. The repeated outages of X raised concerns about its security and vulnerability to cyber threats, as Musk continues to assert that external forces are targeting the platform.
