According to the reports on Wednesday (4 December), a joint search operation was launched in Surankote town of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Wednesday (4 December) after a loud explosion-like sound was heard near an army installation. The explosion is suspected to have occurred close to the army facility, though further details are still awaited. This incident adds to the growing concerns over increased terrorist activities in the region, especially in the wake of the successful and peaceful Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections.
In the past few months, security forces have been on high alert as terrorists have stepped up their operations in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Jammu division. The recent surge in terrorist attacks has targeted both security personnel and innocent civilians. This includes grenade attacks, ambushes, and shootings, all carried out to create chaos and fear in the region.
Notably, a significant operation led to the killing of Junaid Ahmad Bhat, a top Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist, who was involved in the killings of seven civilians in October. Security forces have also been successful in apprehending several terror suspects and over-ground workers. The police recently conducted raids at 56 locations across four districts of Jammu, recovering weapons, ammunition, electronic devices, and documents linked to terrorist organizations like Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Despite these aggressive measures by the security forces, the situation remains tense, with more attacks being carried out against civilians. In one of the more shocking incidents, a grenade attack on November 2 killed a woman and injured several others in a busy market in Srinagar. These attacks, combined with ongoing search operations, show the determination of terrorist groups to destabilize the region, while the security forces continue their efforts to neutralize these threats and restore peace.
