Flood-affected areas are under a red rain warning, including sodden Auckland.
The Coromandel Peninsula will receive the warning for 18 hours starting at 12:00 a.m. (local time) on Wednesday (01 February 2023). The warning is in effect for Northland for 24 hours starting at 04:00 a.m. (local time) on Tuesday (31 January 2023) (100 to 140 mm of rain is possible in the north and east, with less likely amounts in the west) (80 to 120 mm of rain expected about the ranges, with lesser volumes about the coast).
The possibility of additional significant floods and hazardous river conditions is indicated by the red rain warning. Slips and flooding could isolate some villages, hinder traffic, and restrict certain highways.
There are additional warnings issued for other regions as well. Hence, residents of the affected areas are advised to exercise caution and follow safety precautions.
