The French government announced on Sunday (02 July) that hundreds more people have been arrested after a sixth night of rioting provoked by the police shooting of a 17-year-old, as police reinforcements were rushed to hotspot locations around the country.
In an outburst of wrath, protesters, largely teenagers, have set fire to cars, damaged infrastructure, and battled with police since an officer shot Nahel M point blank as he attempted to evade a traffic stop on Tuesday (27 June).
The killing was caught on camera, which went viral on social media, fueling outrage over police violence against minorities and exposing France’s deep racial tensions.
