Forecasters are warning of a significant drop in temperatures across the UK, with Devon expected to see freezing conditions as early as Friday, September 13. An “Arctic blast” will bring colder air, with temperatures potentially reaching 0°C in Tiverton. This shift follows a mild start to autumn, with temperatures expected to remain low over the weekend.
The Met Office has attributed the drop to a cold front sweeping south, introducing Arctic air across the nation. Devon is predicted to experience temperatures below average through the weekend and early next week, with some areas of the UK, like Scotland, seeing temperatures as low as -2°C.
Despite the cold snap, the Met Office expects temperatures to rise again soon. From mid-September, high pressure will likely bring drier and sunnier conditions, with temperatures recovering to average or slightly above-average levels during the day. However, cold nights are still expected in some areas.
The forecast for the South West anticipates a mix of sunshine and showers today, followed by a colder night with patchy frost. Friday morning will bring clear skies and a crisp start, with temperatures reaching a maximum of 16°C in sunny areas, before cloudier but dry conditions set in over the weekend.
