According to the reports on Monday (21 April), The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) reports that nearly 69 percent of the Gaza Strip is currently under active Israeli displacement orders, with the humanitarian situation deteriorating rapidly. Since the collapse of the ceasefire on March 18, Israel has issued at least 20 new displacement orders, forcing around 420,000 people to flee once again. UNRWA now operates 115 shelters across Gaza, housing more than 90,000 displaced individuals.
The blockade of humanitarian aid, which began on March 2, combined with the resumption of Israeli military operations on March 18, has intensified the suffering in Gaza. On Sunday alone, at least 29 Palestinians were killed in Israeli airstrikes, according to Gaza’s Civil Defence. In one of the most devastating incidents, an airstrike on a residential home in the Nuseirat refugee camp killed 10 people and wounded several others.
The violence has also affected southern Gaza, where an Israeli drone attack on a tent sheltering displaced people in Khan Younis killed one woman and injured four others. Four additional people were killed in separate strikes across the city. UNRWA has urgently called for a ceasefire, the release of hostages, and unrestricted access to humanitarian and commercial supplies to address the dire conditions.
Since March 18, the renewed Israeli offensive has resulted in 1,827 deaths and 4,828 injuries in Gaza. The overall death toll since the war began in October 2023 has now surged to 51,201, with over 116,800 injured. Meanwhile, Yemen’s Houthis claim to have attacked US aircraft carriers in retaliation for American airstrikes on a market in Yemen, which killed at least 12 people, signaling escalating regional tensions.
