Hacked verified Facebook accounts are now mimicking Meta, purchasing Facebook advertisements, and allegedly tricking users into clicking dubious download links.
Several legitimate Facebook sites were recently hacked and found to be distributing malware via adverts allowed by and purchased through the platform.
After a verified Facebook account was hacked, the account has been posing as ‘Google AI,’ directing users towards fake links for Google’s AI chatbot and Bard. The original owner of this account was an Indian singer named Miss Pooja, however, according to reports the name was changed on 29 April.
The pages that might sound official, such as ‘Meta Ads Manager’ or ‘Meta Ads” are also victims of this cyber security breach.
Last week, Meta uncovered malware developers who are exploiting the public’s enthusiasm for ChatGPT to trick users into downloading malicious programs and browser extensions.
