According to the reports on Monday (19 May), a senior Hamas official informed that the group is open to releasing a small number of live hostages in return for a temporary ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. The proposed deal includes the release of between seven and nine hostages.
In exchange, Hamas demands a two-month ceasefire, the release of 300 Palestinian prisoners, and a complete pause in hostilities for the same duration. This offer comes amid growing international pressure for a humanitarian resolution to the ongoing conflict.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces continued their offensive in Gaza on Monday (19 May), carrying out a series of airstrikes across the territory. According to rescuers, at least 22 people were killed during these strikes.
Heavy bombardment targeted the southern city of Khan Younis, where 11 people reportedly died and more were injured. Additional casualties were confirmed in the nearby town of Abasan, as well as in Jabaliya, Nuseirat, and Gaza City.
