The Meteorological department issued a heavy rainfall warning in the Coromandel Peninsula, Whitianga from Thursday 5 January until Friday 6 January.
Roads in the Coromandel Peninsula have been closed, and access to towns has been impeded by significant flooding and slips.
As a subtropical storm moves through, thus the warning for a heavy rainfall has been issued. People have been advised to return home or ready to stay put until Sunday, January 8.
