Hezbollah fired rockets into Haifa, Israel’s third-largest city, early Monday (7 October), injuring 10 people and damaging buildings. The attacks also reached Tiberias, about 40 miles away. Israeli police confirmed the injuries and reported that some of the wounded were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment. Surveillance footage captured the moment one of the rockets struck Haifa, and Reuters independently verified the footage.
Hezbollah claimed responsibility for the attack, stating they had targeted a military base south of Haifa with their “Fadi 1” missiles. Israeli authorities confirmed the rockets damaged properties in Haifa, with minor injuries reported. The attacks marked an escalation of tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, who have been in conflict for years over various geopolitical issues.
In response, Israeli fighter jets conducted airstrikes on Hezbollah’s Intelligence Headquarters in Beirut, targeting command centers, intelligence-gathering means, and weapons storage facilities. Secondary explosions were reported at the strike sites, indicating that large quantities of weaponry were present. The strikes also targeted Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon and the Beqaa Valley, intensifying the military conflict.
Israel’s military accused Hezbollah of deliberately embedding its weapons and command centers beneath residential buildings in Beirut, putting civilians at risk. This tactic has raised concerns about the potential for civilian casualties amid the ongoing military actions. As tensions escalate, both sides continue to exchange fire, with the situation showing no signs of de-escalation.
