According to the reports on Wednesday (7 May), in a major counterterrorism operation, Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes early Wednesday (7 May, local time) on nine terror facilities located across Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK). The operation, codenamed Operation Sindoor, was a response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. According to top security officials, more than 80 terrorists were neutralised in these coordinated strikes.

Targets included camps and radicalisation centres linked to banned outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen. Key strikes were conducted in Bahawalpur and Muridke — known strongholds of JeM and LeT — with each reportedly resulting in 25–30 militant deaths. Muridke’s Masjid wa Markaz Taiba, regarded as LeT’s ideological headquarters, was among the primary targets.

Additional sites hit included Sarjal at Tehra Kalan, Kotli, Muzaffarabad, Barnala, and Sialkot. These housed training centres and launch pads of the terror groups. Four of the nine camps were located within Pakistan’s territory, while the rest were in POK. Indian officials stated that no Pakistani military bases were targeted, although elements of the Pakistani Army, ISI, and SSG were allegedly aiding these terror outfits.

Following the strikes, Pakistan retaliated with heavy artillery shelling along the Line of Control and International Border, resulting in the deaths of eight civilians in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir. Two Jammu and Kashmir police personnel were also injured. The Indian Army released a video post-strike with the message “Justice is served,” while Pakistan condemned the action as a “blatant act of war.” The exchange of fire was reportedly ongoing.
