According to the reports on Tuesday (11 February), the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have been placed on full combat alert after Hamas announced it would halt the planned handover of Israeli hostages. Defense Minister Israel Katz called Hamas’s decision a “complete violation” of the ceasefire agreement. In response, Israel has reinforced its military presence in Gaza, postponed soldier leave, and prepared for potential escalation.
Hamas officials stated that the hostage release, originally scheduled for Saturday (15 February), will be delayed due to Israel’s failure to comply with the truce. The group accused Israel of blocking Palestinian civilians from returning to northern Gaza and preventing the entry of essential supplies such as tents, fuel, medicine, and rubble-clearing equipment. The situation has further heightened tensions between the two sides.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has criticized former US President Donald Trump’s proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza, calling it a violation of international law. Navi Pillay, chairwoman of the UN Independent Commission on the Palestinian Territory, stated that forced transfers from occupied territories constitute ethnic cleansing. She emphasized that no legal framework exists to justify Trump’s plan.
Pillay, a former judge of the International Criminal Court (ICC), also condemned Trump’s sanctions on ICC officials investigating US and Israeli actions. She stressed that international law must apply equally to all nations without favoritism. The ongoing conflict and legal disputes highlight the complex and contentious nature of the Israeli-Palestinian situation.
