According to the reports on Monday (26 May), as the war in Gaza continues, Israel has reportedly turned down a new ceasefire proposal aimed at ending the conflict and securing the release of hostages. A senior Israeli official confirmed the rejection, calling the offer something “no responsible government” could accept. Details of the proposal are still emerging.

The proposal focused on securing the release of the remaining 10 Israeli hostages in exchange for a 70-day ceasefire. It also included provisions for the flow of humanitarian aid into Gaza and a path toward permanent peace through further negotiations. However, Israel viewed the terms as overly favorable to Hamas.

Israeli officials criticized the rejected deal as a surrender to Hamas and reiterated their commitment to a different peace plan backed by the United States. This alternative, known as the Witkoff framework, proposes a 50-day truce and negotiations without requiring Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza or the release of Palestinian prisoners—both key Hamas demands.

Fighting resumed after Israel ended a two-month ceasefire in March, expanding military operations across the Gaza Strip. Israel has since declared its intention to take full control of the territory. The rejection of the latest proposal underscores the deep divisions and complexity in reaching a lasting resolution to the war.
