According to the reports on Friday (16 May), Israeli forces have escalated their assaults across the Gaza Strip, resulting in a significant loss of life. Since Thursday morning (15 May, local time), medical sources report at least 143 Palestinians have been killed in a wave of attacks launched from the air, land, and sea. Among the dead are many civilians, including children, with one recent strike on the Jabaliya refugee camp killing six people and wounding numerous others.
The violence has also affected other areas within Gaza, including the southern city of Khan Younis, where two separate attacks killed five civilians and injured many more. Additionally, a house north of Gaza City was bombed, resulting in the deaths of two Palestinians and injuries to several others, including children. Since Israel resumed strikes on March 18, the health ministry in Gaza has reported nearly 2,900 deaths, with the overall death toll since the outbreak of war on October 7, 2023, now exceeding 53,000.
Beyond Gaza, Israeli forces have intensified their offensive in the occupied West Bank, carrying out raids and blocking roads. These actions followed the killing of four Palestinians during ongoing operations. The offensive targets resistance fighters of the Jenin Battalion, with violence in the West Bank increasing sharply since the outbreak of conflict in October 2023.
Since then, Israeli forces and settlers have killed approximately 1,000 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The combined impact of the violence in Gaza and the West Bank has caused severe humanitarian and security challenges in the region, fueling ongoing conflict and instability.
