On Wednesday (14 August), Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip resulted in the deaths of at least 17 individuals, including five children and their parents. The strikes, which occurred overnight (local time) and continued into the early hours of the day (local time), came just before new cease-fire talks aimed at resolving the 10-month-long conflict.
The United States, Qatar, and Egypt are attempting to mediate the negotiations, but the parties involved remain significantly divided on key issues.
One of the strikes targeted a family home in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza late on Tuesday (13 August), resulting in the deaths of five children aged between 2 and 11, along with their parents. In Khan Younis, located in southern Gaza, a strike on a residential tower late on Tuesday (13 August) led to the deaths of four men.
Additionally, another strike in Beit Lahiya, a northern town, killed two people and wounded five others. Emergency services continue to respond to the aftermath of these attacks as efforts to secure a cease-fire proceed.
