On the night of Wednesday (8 January, local time), a Russian drone attack triggered a seven-hour air alert in the Kyiv region. The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine detected drones launched by Russian forces on Tuesday (7 January), leading to heightened vigilance in multiple regions. After midnight, the Kyiv Regional Military Administration warned residents about the presence of drones and ongoing air defense operations.
Ukraine’s air defense systems were active during the attack, successfully intercepting and downing the drones. Mykola Kalashnyk, the interim head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, confirmed that air defense efforts prevented significant damage or casualties. This highlights the effectiveness of Ukraine’s defensive measures amid ongoing aggression.
The debris from the downed drones caused minor damage in one settlement. A private house and a fence sustained harm, including cuts to the building’s facade, smashed windows, and damage to doors. Fortunately, no hits to critical or residential infrastructure were reported, and no injuries occurred among the population.
