According to the reports on Friday (05 September), Mumbai Police were put on high alert after receiving a threatening WhatsApp message that claimed 34 vehicles across the city had been rigged with human bombs carrying 400 kilograms of RDX. The message warned that the blasts would shake the entire city. The threat was reportedly issued by a group identifying itself as “Lashkar-e-Jihadi,” which also claimed that 14 Pakistani terrorists had entered India.
Authorities swiftly tightened security measures across Mumbai and the rest of Maharashtra to prevent any possible attack. Traffic police, who initially received the message, informed senior officials, leading to intensified checks and surveillance across vulnerable areas. The police confirmed they are investigating all possible angles behind the threat.
This threat comes amid a string of hoax bomb alerts that have disrupted life in the state. On Monday, a 43-year-old man was arrested for allegedly making a false bomb threat targeting Kalwa railway station in Thane district. The Government Railway Police traced and detained the suspect, confirming the call was baseless.
In recent months, similar hoax threats have been reported at the ISKCON Temple in Girgaon and at Terminal 2 of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. In both cases, extensive searches were carried out by bomb detection squads, but no explosives were found. These repeated incidents have created heightened anxiety in Mumbai, keeping law enforcement on edge.
