The district administration enforced a night curfew in the mountainous district on Saturday (29 April), after agitators set fire to an open gym, chairs, and other things on Thursday night.
The Churachandpur district government enforced a night curfew from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. (local time) on Saturday (29 April).
According to police, certain acts of violence have been reported in the tribal-dominated Kangpokpi and Tengnoupal districts since Friday night (28 April).
The incidences of violence occurred after tribals renewed their demonstrations against the state government’s action against illegal poppy producers and the destruction of poppy crops in forest land, particularly in reserve and protected forests in hilly areas.
