Over the weekend, nine individuals perished in avalanches in Austria and Italy as heavy snowfall and school breaks brought skiers to the Alps. According to police, some of the deceased died while skiing in unmarked areas despite warnings of a high avalanche danger.
In East Tirol, Austria, on Sunday (05 February 2023), a snow plow operator was found dead after being swept away.
