On Tuesday 21 February, The National Weather Service in San Angelo issued a Red Flag Warning for extreme fire weather.
The Red Flag Warning, which is in place on Wednesday, February 22, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. CST, was issued due to strong west/southwest winds and low relative humidity levels.
Fisher, Nolan, Sterling, Coke, Runnels, Rion, Tom Green, Concho, Crockett, Schleicher, Sutton, Haskell, Jones, Taylor, Menard, and Kimble counties are included in the warning’s scope. Wind gusts are expected to reach up to 50 mph, which can hasten the spread of any fire that starts.
While the red flag warning is in effect, the NSW highly discourages any action that could result in flames or sparks.
