According to the reports on Tuesday (28 January), overnight (local time) Russian air attacks targeted multiple regions in Ukraine, leaving eight people wounded and causing significant damage to residential buildings and infrastructure. In the Kharkiv district, drone debris injured a 62-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man while setting several houses ablaze. A private business in Kharkiv also caught fire due to the attack, with massive flames engulfing production facilities. Emergency services responded promptly, treating two individuals for acute stress reactions, including a child.
Ukraine’s air force intercepted 65 drones, though 28 others reached their targets, intensifying the destruction. The Black Sea port city of Odesa suffered damage to residential buildings and vehicles, with four people injured in the attack. In the central town of Uman in the Cherkasy region, power and heating systems were disrupted, and efforts to restore services were underway, according to local authorities.
The Kyiv region faced heavy damage as well, with nine vehicles destroyed and 27 others damaged at a vintage car museum. Residential houses and cars in the region were also impacted, but no casualties were reported. Firefighters worked to extinguish fires caused by the attacks, which spread across various districts.
The ongoing conflict, sparked by Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has brought widespread destruction and suffering. Both sides continue to deny targeting civilians, yet residential areas, businesses, and infrastructure remain frequent targets in the nearly three-year-long war. Ukrainian officials and emergency services are working tirelessly to mitigate the effects of the attacks and assist affected residents.
