According to the reports on Thursday (6 February), Russian drone attacks on multiple Ukrainian regions over the past day killed one civilian and injured 24 others, according to regional authorities. Ukraine’s air defenses managed to shoot down 56 of the 77 Shahed-type drones launched overnight (local time), while 18 drones were lost without causing damage. In Kherson Oblast, Russian strikes killed one person and wounded 18, while additional casualties were reported in Donetsk, Kharkiv, and other regions.
The large-scale air attack was repelled by Ukraine’s aviation, anti-aircraft missile troops, electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. Russian forces launched the drones from multiple locations, including Orel, Kursk, Bryansk, and Millerovo, as well as two Iskander-M ballistic missiles from Rostov. Ukrainian regions such as Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Kyiv, and Odesa were among those affected by the assault.
In response, Ukraine carried out a drone strike on the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield in Russia’s Krasnodar Krai, which is a key launch site for Russian Shahed-type drones. The Ukrainian military confirmed hits and explosions at the site, causing a fire, with the extent of the damage still being assessed. The airfield also serves as a storage, training, and maintenance facility for aircraft operating in Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts.
Since late 2022, Russia has used the Primorsko-Akhtarsk airfield to launch thousands of Shahed drones targeting Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Ukrainian officials have stated that strikes on Russian military facilities involved in attacks on Ukraine will continue. Meanwhile, Russia’s offensive efforts show no signs of slowing, with daily strikes continuing to hit civilian areas across Ukraine.
