On Wednesday (04 September), seven people, including three children, were killed in a wave of Russian missile strikes on the western Ukrainian city of Lviv. The victims included a baby, two girls aged nine and 14, and a woman who worked as a midwife. The attacks involved the use of drones and hypersonic missiles.
This tragedy follows another devastating incident on Tuesday (03 September) in Poltava, where at least 50 people lost their lives in an assault on a military institute. The escalating violence has placed Ukraine under a nationwide air alert, with explosions also reported over Kyiv as air defenses intercepted Russian missiles targeting the capital.
In addition to the casualties in Lviv, five people were wounded when a hotel and nearby blocks were hit in the city of Kryvyy Rih.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the missile strikes on Lviv and Kryvyi Rih, noting the damage to residential buildings, schools, and medical facilities. Zelenskyy offered condolences to the families of the victims and praised Ukraine’s international partners for their support in providing air defense capabilities.
Zelenskyy emphasized the need for continued global assistance to prevent further Russian attacks, stating, “Terror must be stopped.” Emergency services are currently working to address the aftermath of the strikes, ensuring that the injured receive the necessary medical care. The situation remains tense as Ukrainian cities brace for further potential assaults.
