Hertfordshire Police has issued a public warning after scammers posing as police targeted two Bishop’s Stortford residents, one of whom lost £6,000 in the process.
This month, victims in Bishop’s Stortford, Hertfordshire, got phone calls from criminals posing as police officers, urging them to withdraw cash to hand over to a courier who arrived at their homes.
Since the beginning of April, seventeen residents in Bushey, Harpenden, St Albans, and Welwyn have been targeted, resulting in a loss of more than £30,000. If you receive an unexpected call, you should be wary.
Remember that your bank and the police would never ask for your bank account data or PIN number over the phone, so do not provide it to anyone, no matter who they claim to be.
Your bank would never request that you withdraw funds and transmit them to them through courier, cab, or other means. They would also never request that you transmit your bank cards or any other personal property to them through courier, cab, or any other methods.
