In a significant counter-terrorism operation, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district established contact with a group of terrorists on Tuesday (06 August). The encounter took place in the higher reaches of the Pathi Nalla Khaned area of Basantgarh.

According to police reports, the joint operation involved both police and Army personnel, who moved deep into the densely forested area in pursuit of the terrorists. The initial contact was marked by the sound of gunshots, indicating the presence of the terrorists in the region.

The police spokesperson mentioned that the security forces had been conducting search operations in the area based on intelligence inputs about terrorist movements. The densely forested terrain posed a challenge, but the joint search parties pressed on to track down the suspects.

The operation is part of the ongoing efforts to curb terrorist activities in the region and ensure the safety of the local population. As of the latest updates, the operation was still underway, with security forces working to neutralize the threat.

Further details about the encounter, including the number of terrorists involved and any casualties, were not immediately available. Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid the area while the operation is in progress.
