Air defense forces successfully shot down seven enemy drones over the Sumy region on the night of Friday (11 October 2024). This interception was part of a broader series of attacks launched by Russian forces targeting various communities in the region. The attacks occurred both during the night and the following morning, causing widespread destruction.
Eight communities, including Sumy, Khotyn, Bilopil, Miropil, Velykopysariv, Richkiv, Novoslobid, and Esman, were subjected to shelling and drone strikes. A total of 40 explosions were recorded, with various types of weapons being used, including mortars, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and FPV drones.
The Bilopilska community experienced the most intense attacks, with 19 explosions from different sources, including mortar and MLRS fire. Other communities, like Khotyn and Miropil, were hit by unexploded ordnance and drone strikes, leading to further damage.
Despite the extensive attacks, Ukrainian air defense forces managed to prevent further harm by intercepting the drones. However, the continued shelling in the Sumy region highlights the ongoing threat faced by these border communities from Russian aggression.
