Severe weather is expected to affect much of Croatia through at least September 10. Thunderstorms are forecast across the country, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, lightning, and hail. These storms could lead to flooding in low-lying areas, power outages, and potential property damage.
Croatia’s State Hydrometeorological Institute has issued weather warnings across several regions. Red thunderstorm warnings are in effect for the Rijeka Region, with orange warnings for Dubrovnik, Knin, and Split. Additional warnings for rain and wind are in place across Central and South Dalmatia, as well as yellow warnings in other areas.
The heavy rainfall may cause urban flooding, landslides, and hazardous driving conditions in affected areas. Strong winds could also make it dangerous for high-profile vehicles and lead to flight delays or cancellations. Authorities may close roads, suspend port operations, and issue evacuation orders for flood-prone communities.
Disruptions to businesses and utilities are likely, especially in areas experiencing severe flooding. Some companies may be forced to reduce operations, and electricity and telecommunications outages could impact daily life. Travelers and residents must stay informed and prepare for possible weather-related disruptions.
