According to the reports on Friday (15 November), The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of two individuals during an armed attack on Yabo town, the headquarters of Yabo Local Government Area in Sokoto State. Suspected terrorists carried out the attack, and the incident has raised concerns about security in the region.
According to the police spokesperson, ASP Ahmad Rufai, the victims, Mallam Abubakar Umar Yabo and Malam Abba Muhammad, were taken from their respective homes. The bandits attempted to target a third residence, but the alert actions of the homeowner and timely police intervention disrupted their plans. Despite this, the attackers succeeded in abducting the two individuals.
The police responded swiftly, engaging the bandits in a gunfire exchange. This action likely prevented further abductions but was not enough to rescue the victims at the time. The assailants fled the scene with the abducted individuals, leaving the area tense and residents worried about their safety.
Efforts to rescue the victims are reportedly ongoing as the police intensify their operations in the region. The incident highlights the continued challenges posed by armed groups in parts of Sokoto State and the need for improved security measures to protect vulnerable communities.
