In the early hours of July 24, a fierce encounter broke out between the Indian Army and terrorists in the Kowut area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara region.

The Army, in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, had launched a joint operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the area. The vigilant troops observed suspicious movement and promptly challenged it. In response, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on the troops.

During the ensuing firefight, one terrorist was killed. However, a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) from the Army sustained critical injuries. Despite immediate medical attention, the soldier succumbed to his injuries shortly after the encounter. The operation was part of ongoing efforts to counteract terrorism and maintain security in the region.

This incident highlights the persistent security challenges faced by the region and the relentless efforts of the security forces to ensure stability. The encounter resulted in a tragic loss for the Army, with the death of the brave soldier, even as it succeeded in neutralizing a terrorist threat.
