Peruvian President announced on Monday (18 September) that her government has declared a state of emergency in three districts where crime has increased, allowing the military to assist in enforcing security.
The emergency status was declared in the Lima districts of San Juan de Lurigancho and San Martin de Porras, as well as the northern district of Talara.
The measure is aimed at raising a “frontal fight against crime and organized crime.” The law, which will go into force on Tuesday (19 September), suspends civil rights such as the right to privacy.
