War-torn Residents reported a communications blackout in Sudan’s capital for many hours on Friday (14 July), as the army and paramilitary forces engaged in heavy combat around Khartoum and humanitarian agencies warned of escalating crises.
“Violent clashes” trembled the capital. The cause of the outage was unknown, but mobile and Internet networks were restored by the afternoon.
Throughout the day, columns of black smoke could be seen rising toward army headquarters in Khartoum’s center and to the city’s south.
