Taylor Swift’s highly anticipated Eras Tour shows in Vienna have been canceled due to a planned terrorist attack targeting the concerts. Swift was set to perform at the Ernst-Happel-Stadion in Vienna on Thursday (08 August), Friday (09 August), and Saturday (10 August) as part of the international leg of her tour.
Austrian police arrested two individuals on Wednesday (07 August) in connection with the terror plot, which included plans to attack major events in Vienna, with Swift’s concerts specifically targeted. One of the suspects is a 19-year-old who allegedly pledged allegiance to ISIS and had uploaded an oath of loyalty to the terrorist group’s current leader online just weeks before the arrest. Authorities discovered chemical substances at the time of the arrest, and investigators are now determining whether these could have been used to construct a bomb.
The suspects, who became radicalized through the internet, had developed detailed plans for the attack, according to U.S. officials familiar with the investigation. Austrian law enforcement is still searching for additional individuals who may know the plot.
The cancellation of Swift’s concerts has deeply disappointed fans, but authorities prioritized public safety given the severity of the threat. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are working diligently to ensure the safety of Vienna’s residents and visitors.
